Red Wing Soccer Club (RWSC) is reaching out to request your assistance in building a steady pool of qualified soccer referees by introducing Red Wing Referees United, a dedicated group of local soccer enthusiasts committed to officiating games.

There are two options for reffing – Traveling (U9-U18) and Rec League (U5-U8). For Traveling, you must register with the Minnesota SRC and attend a certification class; for Rec League, you must attend a local (short) class in the spring. We will be hosting an informational meeting January 25 where all are invited to learn more and talk with RWSC members. You probably have some questions, we have some answers:

𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐝𝐨 𝐈 𝐠𝐞𝐭 𝐜𝐞𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐞𝐝? Attend the informational meeting 𝐉𝐚𝐧𝐮𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝟐𝟓 𝐚𝐭 𝟓:𝟑𝟎𝐩𝐦 𝐚𝐭 𝐋𝐢𝐛𝐞𝐫𝐭𝐲’𝐬. Pizza and pop will be provided! Then register with MinnesotaSRC.com (we will assist with this at the informational meeting). You will have to sign up for a certification class once they are posted on MinnesotaSRC.com after you attend the certification class, which is a one-day, 6-hour session. For local rec league soccer, there will host a condensed class hosted by RWSC in Red Wing (no official certification is required).

𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐨𝐥𝐝 𝐝𝐨 𝐈 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐞?
TRAVELING SOCCER: You must be at least 13 years old to ref traveling team games. Please note: You cannot referee as a center a game older than your age. For example, if you are 13, you cannot be a center ref a U18 game; you can, however, be a sideline ref.

REC LEAGUE: You must be at least 10 years old to ref community rec games, played at Bach Fields during the summer. You do NOT have to go through the full Minnesota SRC certification for rec league. We will have a short, local class for those interested in community rec reffing in the spring.

𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐦𝐮𝐜𝐡 𝐰𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐈 𝐠𝐞𝐭 𝐩𝐚𝐢𝐝 𝐩𝐞𝐫 𝐠𝐚𝐦𝐞?

• REC LEAGUE U5-U8 (Center only $10)
• U9-U10 (Center only $45)
• U11-U12 (Center $60, Sidelines $45)
• U13-14 (Center $70, Sidelines $55)
• U15-16 (Center $75, Sidelines $60)
• U17-18 (Center $80, Sidelines $65)

Bonus: Ref three games in a season earn a $50 bonus (traveling) and a $25 bonus (rec league)!

𝐃𝐨 𝐈 𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐯𝐞𝐥? TRAVELING: You do not need to travel. Once certified, we ask that you commit to at least 3 games in Red Wing. However, you are not limited to Red Wing; you can referee games across the state. Red Wing Referees United can help you find games and get your registered.

REC LEAGUE: No traveling involved. Games will be played one day per week at Bach Field (across from Twin Bluff) and are one-hour long over six weeks. We ask that you commit to at least 3 games.

𝐃𝐨 𝐈 𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐝 𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐜 𝐞𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐩𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭/𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦?

TRAVELING: Yes, RWSC will pay for your first set of uniform, gear and referee kit, including shirt, shorts, flags, whistle and books (excluding shoes).

REC LEAGUE: No, RWSC will provide you with a special t-shirt; we ask that you wear your shin guards and cleats/tennis shoes.

It's up to you and your availability! You choose what games, where they are located, and when you referee. We do ask that you commit to at least 3 games per season.

Once you are certified and ready to ref, RW Referees United will plan to meet quarterly with Minnesota SRC refs to discuss what’s working and what could we do better.
